CLANDESTINE DRUG LABORATORY

The Australian Government has recognised that the residual contamination arising from illicit drug manufacture carried out in clandestine drug laboratories presents a serious risk of harm to human and environmental health.

In response, the Clandestine Drug Laboratory Remediation Guidelines(Australian Government, 2011) have been prepared to provide a framework for the assessment and remediation of potentially contaminated sites resulting from the operation of clandestine drug laboratories.

MEtech Consulting provide expertise in undertaking clandestine drug laboratory investigations, including:

  1. Preliminary Assessment: To identify the presence of any contaminant residue within the premises used for drug manufacture that may have the potential to pose a risk of harm. Sampling limited to preliminary screening only
  2. Detailed Assessment: To identify the nature and extent of any contaminant residue, including within the premises (surfaces, ventilation), wastewater systems (eg. septic tanks) and within soils resulting from the inappropriate disposal of manufacture chemicals
  3. Remedial Strategies: Dependant on the nature and extent of the contamination, as well as the size and nature of use of the premises, a range of remedial strategies can be adopted to mitigate risks posed by contamination
  4. Validation: The process of certifying the completeness of the remedial action and assessment of whether the premises may be reused for a particular use
